All year long, Greater Cincinnati is blissfully awash in fine music. Recitals, chamber music, opera, symphonies. These are blessings that are so abundant that it can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. But there is nothing quite like the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra’s Summermusik Festival.

Summermusik returns this August with festival favorites, major debuts

The 12th Summermusik Festival, presented with its resident ensemble, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, will feature three world premieres, numerous award-winning local artists and two internationally acclaimed guest artists making their festival debuts. The festival again centers on three core experiences: weeknight Chamber Crawls, Sunday “A Little Afternoon Musik” matinees and Saturday mainstage performances.

As the Ol’ Lefthander might say, we’re rounding third and heading for home, as far as summer is concerned. Way too many kids are already back in school, and Labor Day weekend may be a bit more than a head-first slide away, but there’s plenty of summer fun ahead this week.

For more than a half-century, Kronos has been relentless in pursuit of its mission, commissioning more than 1,000 new works, and recording so many that the group has become a staple of classical music radio. Kronos has collaborated with hundreds of performers, including David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails.
