Culture FIX: Sept. 9-15

Theater (or is it theaTRE?) wins the week with season openers from Know to Playhouse to Cincinnati’s brilliant community theaters. Sing along with some Broadway showstoppers or settle in for the Bach B Minor. Great jazz, Lili Boulanger, a little poetry and a couple of good films round out your week.

Culture FIX: May 20-26

We say Greater Cincinnati offers a cultural feast. With Memorial Day earlier than usual, though, the warm season overlaps the traditional season. That means twice the fun and enlightenment this week, whether it’s eclectic music across an entire neighborhood, fresh sounds at a classical festival or a literal feast to kick off summer. Grab your spork and read on.

Culture FIX: May 13-19

This week it’s about singing, shopping and books. All of my favorite things. May Festival steps onto the risers (don’t forget dinner in WP, first) while Simon and Garfunkel take the stage in Kentucky. Langston Hughes, Harriet Beecher Stowe and some acoustic blues each have their moment. Take your pick.

Culture FIX, Feb. 4-10

What? More snow? Fortunately, there’s plenty going on this week to warm your heart (Valentine’s Day is coming!) and take your mind off the weather. Shake it off and read on …

Culture FIX: Nov. 5-11

Edgar Allen Poe at the CSO. F. Scott Fitzgerald at the ballet. Salmon Rushdie at the MEMO. Brothers Grimm at Cincinnati Opera. Great authors are everywhere. Do lemons really make noise? Falcon Theatre knows. Christ Church serves up some terrific violin music for your lunch break. Here’s hoping your brain doesn’t explode from all of the great offerings.

Culture FIX, Sept. 3-9

The smoke may have just cleared from this year’s Labor Day weekend Riverfest party, but plenty of fireworks are ahead this week, with a mix of still-summer outdoor fun and fall arts seasons gearing up.

Culture FIX: May 14-20

Don’t blame me. Around Casa di Consoli, we call the celestial alignment when it seems every organization in town decides to offer major events at the same time as an Every Weekend. We have one of ’em on tap this week – especially on Saturday (good grief!). Just remember: I was not in charge of scheduling.

Culture FIX: May 7-13

Get ready for some serious storytelling this week. Findlay Market has stories we’re sure you’ve never heard. Fan of The Zombies? Boy, they’ve got stuff. Cincinnati Music Theatre stages the tale of “Sweet Charity,” while concert nova shares a musical narrative about a CSO conductor from long ago. Appalchian Festival? Creative storytelling is everywhere. Enjoy!
