It’s not something one expects to say in mid-August, but we hope your homes are dry and the trees near you are still standing. Assuming you’re safe and sound, there’s plenty to get out and enjoy: hot jazz, sinfully good orchestral fare and “new” Gershwin, to name a few.

Culture FIX: July 15-21

If you’re not acclimated to the heat yet, the weather gurus say weekend rain may temper things. Well, OK … if it actually happens. If not, there’s at least as much to do inside as outside this week. So no excuses for not enjoying some mid-July culture.

Culture FIX: June 10-16

There are people that actually enjoy hot weather and don’t mind humidity. For them, we have outdoor celebrations this week, if the rain holds off. For the rest of us, there’s plenty to do in air-conditioned comfort, where the only thing hot will be the music. Whichever you prefer, enjoy.

Culture FIX: June 3-9

Summer is culturally here, even if the solstice is still a few weeks away. In some cities, that might mean less culture. Not here. We just move it outside. There’s also a visual cornucopia of art openings indoors this week to delight the eye. Read on and plan your busy week ahead.

Culture FIX: Jan. 21-27

Culture FIX: Dec. 10-16

What we need this week is a good-ol’ Christmas miracle. Short of figuring out how to clone yourself, that’s the only way you’ll be able to get to all the great events in store for us over the next seven days. Read on and pick your favorites. Then relax and enjoy: There are no wrong answers.

Culture FIX: Aug. 6-12

Kronos Quartet in Riga

You can tell the sun is rising farther to the south these days, but that doesn’t mean our summer days – and all the events we pack into them – are over. Not by a long shot. Indoors and out, there’s the usual overflowing list of enlightening entertainment waiting just for you. Need help picking? Well, that’s why we get the big bucks.

Culture FIX: April 16-22

In case you weren’t quite sure, yes, it is officially spring. Your confusion is understandable, given nighttime freeze warnings, 80-degree days and storms in between. In case you wish to wait it out indoors until things settle down, there’s plenty to choose from: Renaissance masters, rom-coms, or the latest art from both in town and across the country. Read on.

Culture FIX: Oct. 30-Nov. 5

If you’re one of those All Hallows Eve or Day of the Dead or Halloween people, this week’s for you. Enjoy a good ghost story, scary ballet or a Stephen King film. Maybe a requiem is your thing. Of course, there’s jazz, some “true crime” theater and the last of FotoFocus. Boo!
