Culture FIX: Sept. 9-15

Theater (or is it theaTRE?) wins the week with season openers from Know to Playhouse to Cincinnati’s brilliant community theaters. Sing along with some Broadway showstoppers or settle in for the Bach B Minor. Great jazz, Lili Boulanger, a little poetry and a couple of good films round out your week.

Culture FIX: April 29-May 5

I have good news and some bad news. The good: Arts and culture offerings in late spring bloom like honeysuckle in these parts. The bad: You’ll have to clone yourself to get to it all. If you can’t do that, you’ll just have to plan wisely. Don’t fret too much, though. There are no wrong answers.

Culture FIX: March 11-17

The curse has been lifted! Daylight saving time is back, which means you can actually get home from work while it’s still light. It’s also a powerful motivator for getting out to enjoy some evening activities. An art opening? Concert? Cultural festival? Take your pick. There’s plenty to go around.

Culture FIX: Jan. 21-27

I know what you’re thinking: It won’t even break freezing for five of the next seven days. Why would I want to go out there? You do, though, because there’s a bomb cyclone’s worth of events to warm your spirit. Read on and feel the chill melt away.

Culture FIX: Nov. 5-11

Edgar Allen Poe at the CSO. F. Scott Fitzgerald at the ballet. Salmon Rushdie at the MEMO. Brothers Grimm at Cincinnati Opera. Great authors are everywhere. Do lemons really make noise? Falcon Theatre knows. Christ Church serves up some terrific violin music for your lunch break. Here’s hoping your brain doesn’t explode from all of the great offerings.

Culture FIX: Sept. 17-23

Get your fill of outdoor activities before the season finally cools down. Movies in the park, blues on the Square and Oktoberfest on the riverfront await. Intriguing lectures, great theater and a film festival also have plenty of empty seats that need you in them. Enjoy.

Culture FIX: April 30-May 6

If this isn’t a crazy culture week, we don’t know what is. From Pink Floyd to wolves and swindlers to string quartets. Sip some cocktails with Queen City Cabaret or learn about the universe with Neil deGrasse Tyson. Music Hall is always open and Cincinnati Ballet wraps up its season. Have a great one.

Culture FIX: April 2-8

Theater everywhere! Two world premieres, to boot. Enjoy young dancers and opera stars at CCM. Hear the storied Miami University Men’s Glee Club. Bicycles as art? How about some mountain climbing with the CSO? Learn how to publish your great American novel or see a great movie. Have fun!

Culture FIX: March 12-18

Well, faith and begorrah, it looks like we’ll have some spring at last. Combined with later sunsets, the warmup is our annual cue to get back out in the world. You’ll have no shortage of options. Whether it’s the wearin’ of the green, avant-garde chamber music, saving endangered wildlife or a Hollywood classic on stage, we’ve got you covered.
