It’s not something one expects to say in mid-August, but we hope your homes are dry and the trees near you are still standing. Assuming you’re safe and sound, there’s plenty to get out and enjoy: hot jazz, sinfully good orchestral fare and “new” Gershwin, to name a few.

Culture FIX: Aug. 12-18

Culture and the arts not only provide enjoyment and relaxation, but sometimes require us to consider the ways of the world. So it is this week. The Appalachian experience, LGBTQ issues, diversity and grief create art that makes us think. Seafood, Fleetwood Mac, a majestic owl and good shopping are still on tap, but have a closer look.

Culture FIX, Aug. 20-26

As the Ol’ Lefthander might say, we’re rounding third and heading for home, as far as summer is concerned. Way too many kids are already back in school, and Labor Day weekend may be a bit more than a head-first slide away, but there’s plenty of summer fun ahead this week.

Culture FIX: Aug. 6-12

You can tell the sun is rising farther to the south these days, but that doesn’t mean our summer days – and all the events we pack into them – are over. Not by a long shot. Culture FIX: Aug. 21-27

Schools may already be back in session, but summer is not yet done with us. Plus there’s a perch for Parrotheads in Price Hill and great American songs across the river. Take a look.

Culture FIX: Aug. 14-20

From Looney Tunes to Calcutta, take note of this week’s four unique film choices. Summermusik eyes its midpoint with a trip to India. Get your summer lobster fix at the Great Inland Seafood Festival. And the Playhouse opens its season with the thriller of all thrillers. Fall is in our sights, but let’s finish this summer thing out. You can do it!

Culture FIX: Aug. 23-29

A long-dead artist, a terrible opera singer, a friendly but homesick alien and a Man in Black walk into a bar . . . Well, wait a minute. Actually, they’re walking into Culture FIX this week. There’s no punch line here, just another varied, unpredictable week full of activity in Cincinnati’s arts and culture scene.

Culture FIX: Aug. 16-22

You’d think mid-August would bring a huge lull to Culture FIX. But summer arts series are still in high gear, new art exhibits are opening, and even some “fall” seasons are underway. There’s lots to do!
