Memorial Day is past, the cool, rainy weather is pretty much over (for now), and it’s time to focus on summer arts and culture with a week filled with outdoor events.
Culture FIX: Oct. 15-21
Location, location, location. Memorial Hall seems to be where it’s at along with an underground art exhibit, spelling bees, telescopes, ghost stories and Mozart. Want to wear your cool Jerry Garcia tie? We have just the concert for that. Theater, organ, film and Henny Penny, all at the ready.

Well, the neighbors down the street put up their Halloween decorations on Labor Day weekend, so it shouldn’t be too surprising that some local cultural groups are starting October with spooky doings. But the week also brings big events that are more delight than fright. Let’s see what we can scare up:

As the Ol’ Lefthander might say, we’re rounding third and heading for home, as far as summer is concerned. Way too many kids are already back in school, and Labor Day weekend may be a bit more than a head-first slide away, but there’s plenty of summer fun ahead this week.

With apologies to composer Béla Bartók, we’re calling this week’s Culture FIX our “Out of Doors” Suite. Every event listed here takes place outside – well, except for Cincinnati Opera, but remember, the company performed “out of doors” at the Cincinnati Zoo for over 50 years.

A garage sale, a vegan festival and fiery Baroque music. We are constantly amazed at the cultural diversity in this city. Been missing your Pink Floyd? Middletown can satisfy. For automotive devotees, Ault Park is the place to be. Our jazz, symphony and opera mainstays don’t disappoint. The Taft Museum offers up some artistic home furnishings you may find interesting. Jazz, books and theater. Opera, food and film. All in the same week. If you’ve never experienced Cincy Fringe, give this wild and wooly theatrical event a try. Emerging choreographers are featured at Mutual Dance Theatre, while Summerfair supports new and not-so-new artists. Two important films are screened and homegrown bands take the stage. Sample something new.
