Sherie Marek traces her philanthropic spirit, evidenced through decades of giving both her time and treasure, to her youth. They “were very poor and struggled” to achieve their dreams. Years later, when her means changed, Marek was eager to give back in a larger way.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s sixth annual Bourbon & BowTie Bash was again a sellout (nearly 2,000 guests) and set a new fundraising record of $350,000 to support type 1 diabetes research.
More than 7,000 people are expected to participate in the JDRF One Walk in Mason. The event is one of more than 200 JDRF walks nationwide.
JDRF Southwest Ohio welcomed over 800 guests to its annual Cincinnatian of the Year Gala. The event honored Rich Boehne, chairman of the E.W. Scripps Co., and raised money for type 1 diabetes research.
“I’ve always had a ‘giving back’ philosophy,” Boehne said. “I grew up in a Southern Baptist family where it was always: What’s mine is yours … and if much has been given, much is expected.”
JDRF will honor Rich Boehne, retired chairman of the E.W. Scripps Co., at its annual Cincinnatian of the Year Gala. Mark Kacher, JDRF Volunteer of the Year, also will be recognized.
