Produced by OTRimprov, the festival will feature more than a dozen Cincinnati troupes along with performers from Chicago, Portland, Los Angeles, Ann Arbor and Columbus. The lineup includes several returning IF Cincy performers.
Theater (or is it theaTRE?) wins the week with season openers from Know to Playhouse to Cincinnati’s brilliant community theaters. Sing along with some Broadway showstoppers or settle in for the Bach B Minor. Great jazz, Lili Boulanger, a little poetry and a couple of good films round out your week.
The funding will support 46 arts organizations across Greater Cincinnati, helping pay for performances, exhibitions, arts education and other community programming.
Bridget Leak, the producing artistic director, said the season underscores the theatre’s strengths as “an intimate performance space in the heart of the OTR neighborhood and for showcasing local writers and artists.”
The series – which runs Jan. 26, Feb. 9 and 23, and March 9 and 23 – features 15-minute episodes of new plays by local playwrights, performed live on the Underground Cabaret stage.
The funding supports a variety of initiatives, from arts and cultural programs to community spaces and inclusive youth activities, with grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000.
Both programs aim to support local and national theater artists and to provide opportunities for aspiring or adventurous playwrights at all stages of their careers.
The 45 grant recipients represent a range of large, mid-size and small nonprofit organizations across the region. Grant sizes vary widely, typically ranging from $10,000 to over $1 million.

It’s been an invigorating season for Cincinnati’s professional theaters. Several world premieres. A handful of memorable classics. And lots and lots of plays and musicals never seen before on local stages. But it seems as if they’ve saved the most intriguing for last.
