The year 2026 is off and running. We’re done with leftovers and “Messiah” is behind us. Get ready for an exciting year of arts experiences and regional culture. Community theater is up and running on the East Side; jazz and CSO take charge downtown; and chili is on the stove at Findlay Market.
This week has a little bit of everything. Inside, outside. Jazz, classical. Ohio, Kentucky. Water, land. kids, adults. Film, theater. Pick your favorites or try something new. The only requirement is to have a great time. Easy to do in these parts. Have a wonderful week. Try to stay cool.
This year’s awardees are Cincinnati From Scratch, Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati, Loveland Stage Company, Queen City Performing Arts, Sunset Players, The Village Players of Fort Thomas and Visionaries & Voices.
Cincinnati’s fabulous biennial light and art festival is behind us – but that doesn’t mean a bleak, post-BLINK wasteland is ahead of us. Here are some highlights from the coming week’s busy cultural calendar.
The last time Cincinnati saw this show, it was one of the hits of the 2014 Cincinnati Fringe Festival. It was appropriately oddball, a musical that examined a 75-year-old urban folk tale about a human-sized amphibian.
The fact that our city can support dozens of smaller galleries and community theater groups, plus children’s performing ensembles and music in churches at lunchtime speaks to how deeply the love and appreciation of arts and culture runs in us. To say nothing of the talent! Have a look and find something new, something smaller-but-mighty to experience this week.
Summerfair Cincinnati awarded seven regional institutions through its 2024 Small Arts Organization Awards program.
Halloween is over and all the scary stuff is behind us, right? Oh no, not at all, culture fans! The coming week is haunted by the specters of a flaming Ferrari, a headless body, a demon barber, a witch, a giant, a mermaid, a Big Fish, a substitute-teacher nun and – most frighteningly of all – four ersatz singing Swedes.
Quite the mix this week, with strong candidates across the arts spectrum. March is storming in like a lion. It will be difficult for you to decide, but I know you’re up to it. Time to get busy…
This week appears to be “Theater Week,” with seven (7!) openings between Thursday and Tuesday. On Saturday or Sunday, take Mom out to explore Asian and/or Hispanic food and culture or photos inspired by the pandemic. Happy Mother’s Day! Hug her tight if you still have one.
