The nonprofit currently has 1,070 animals in its care, including more than 300 dogs housed on-site. With kennels full, some dogs are living in temporary spaces as the shelter struggles to keep up with the number of animals arriving.
The shelter, which provides animal services for Hamilton County, is caring for 878 animals, including 459 dogs and 398 cats. Across its Colerain Avenue and Dane Avenue facilities, 423 animals are housed onsite. Shelter officials said only 15 dog kennels remain available as of Tuesday night.
The county authorized $10 million for the purchase of 80 acres of land near Spring Grove Cemetery. It will serve as the site of the future Cincy CARE Hamilton County shelter facility.
