Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and its live entertainment subsidiary, Music & Event Management, Inc., hosted media and community leaders Tuesday for an updated construction preview at the new outdoor music venue rising next to Riverbend Music Center.
Cincinnati City Council on Wednesday approved a motion to allocate $8 million toward The Farmer Music Center, a step that advances funding for the $160 million project ahead of its planned spring 2027 opening. While the motion passed, council still has to approve it as part of the city’s fiscal year 2027 budget.
The state-of-the-art amphitheater, set to open along the Ohio River in spring 2027, features a bold vertical design intended to improve sightlines, enhance sound and bring audiences closer to the stage.
A 27-year veteran of the orchestra field, including nine years as CSO vice president and general manager and four years as chief operating officer, McGrath will simultaneously lead the CSO; the CSO’s subsidiary, Music and Event Management, Inc.; and the Cincinnati May Festival.
The CSO’s board of directors picked COO Robert McGrath to assume the role of acting president and CEO once Jonathan Martin retires.
MEMI and EVT Management created the food rescue program in May. The goal is to combat food insecurity across the region.
News of the event’s return to Kellogg Avenue site comes weeks after MEMI purchased the park to build a new music venue.
The longstanding Cincinnati amusement park will park will close for good on Dec. 31. A timeline for construction isn’t yet available.
