I have good news and some bad news. The good: Arts and culture offerings in late spring bloom like honeysuckle in these parts. The bad: You’ll have to clone yourself to get to it all. If you can’t do that, you’ll just have to plan wisely. Don’t fret too much, though. There are no wrong answers.

Well, the neighbors down the street put up their Halloween decorations on Labor Day weekend, so it shouldn’t be too surprising that some local cultural groups are starting October with spooky doings. But the week also brings big events that are more delight than fright. Let’s see what we can scare up:
Jazz, books and theater. Opera, food and film. All in the same week. If you’ve never experienced Cincy Fringe, give this wild and wooly theatrical event a try. Emerging choreographers are featured at Mutual Dance Theatre, while Summerfair supports new and not-so-new artists. Two important films are screened and homegrown bands take the stage. Sample something new.
Apparently, it’s Film Week in Cincinnati. Cincinnati World Cinema, Woodward Theater and the OTR International Film Festival offer up some unique flicks. Movies not your thing? Cincinnati doesn’t disappoint with other CSO, Matinée Musicale and Mutual Dance Theatre events. How about a Manifest art opening? Yours Truly checks out “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at CCM Opera.
Coincidence stories are in everyone’s repertoire. They boggle the mind in a pleasant way. It’s more than just “What are the odds?” In their unlikeliness they seem to be some kind of a sign, if you will, from wherever you believe signs come from. A kind of cosmic poetry.
