Culture FIX: Aug. 19-25

It’s not something one expects to say in mid-August, but we hope your homes are dry and the trees near you are still standing. Assuming you’re safe and sound, there’s plenty to get out and enjoy: hot jazz, sinfully good orchestral fare and “new” Gershwin, to name a few.

Culture FIX: Aug. 12-18

Culture and the arts not only provide enjoyment and relaxation, but sometimes require us to consider the ways of the world. So it is this week. The Appalachian experience, LGBTQ issues, diversity and grief create art that makes us think. Seafood, Fleetwood Mac, a majestic owl and good shopping are still on tap, but have a closer look.

Culture FIX: Aug. 5-11

Summermusik honors America, veterans and pets, while some Irish guys blow into town. Stephen Sondheim and Lillian Hellmann take the stage. Mercantile offers up history on our 19th amendment. Like watercolors? Head to Mariemont or check out some jazz in Wash Park. Culture is never lacking even in the dead of summer in Cincinnati. Just don’t forget your umbrella.

All year long, Greater Cincinnati is blissfully awash in fine music. Recitals, chamber music, opera, symphonies. These are blessings that are so abundant that it can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. But there is nothing quite like the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra’s Summermusik Festival.

Culture FIX: July 22-28

Music, murder, mayhem and movies top the list of fun things to do this week. Agatha Christie and Michael Crichton have their moment, while Carmen (spoiler alert!) meets her maker at the hands of her jilted lover. Chamber music and art inspired by playing cards round out an exciting week of cool stuff to do.
