Culture FIX: July 22-28

Music, murder, mayhem and movies top the list of fun things to do this week. Agatha Christie and Michael Crichton have their moment, while Carmen (spoiler alert!) meets her maker at the hands of her jilted lover. Chamber music and art inspired by playing cards round out an exciting week of cool stuff to do.

Culture FIX: Feb. 25-March 3

Cincinnati Opera gears back up just as the Early Music Festival winds down. Never a dull moment in this town. A piano concerto for only the left hand? Jazz and theater (or is that thea-TRE) abound or you can live it up at Art After Dark. There’s a little bit of something for everybody this week.

A bevy of terrifying choices might suggest Halloween is approaching . From “Rocky Horror Show” and vampires to “Friday the 13th” and dancing clowns, the Queen City is celebrating from top to bottom. You don’t celebrate all things macabre? How about some coffee or Shostakovich? There’s the full complement of lectures, jazz and theater. Something to suit each of you.

Location, location, location. Memorial Hall seems to be where it’s at along with an underground art exhibit, spelling bees, telescopes, ghost stories and Mozart. Want to wear your cool Jerry Garcia tie? We have just the concert for that. Theater, organ, film and Henny Penny, all at the ready.

As the stunning shades of fall are incredibly varied and textured, so goes our cultural life. From neon to Sinatra to East Asian art and everything in between, the choices are bountiful. Expose yourself to film, world-class lecturers and our own Cincinnati Pops in this burst of activity.

Community Arts Centers

We reached out this month to our area’s arts centers, locally focused organizations that bring cultural and artistic activities – and a sense of community – to their neighborhoods. We asked them to showcase their programs and amenities, as part of M&M’s continuing effort to recognize those in Greater Cincinnati’s nonprofit ecosystem.

Culture FIX: July 23-29

The Queen City is hopping this week, with goings on from Covington to Lincoln Heights. Cincinnati Opera raises the curtain on “Fiddler on the Roof.” Get your fill of goetta in Newport. The Sign Museum is lit up. Queen City Clay is fired up. The Mercantile hosts author Katie Yee and Patsy Cline is “Walkin’ After Midnight.” Have fun.
