Culture FIX: July 23-29

The Queen City is hopping this week, with goings on from Covington to Lincoln Heights. Cincinnati Opera raises the curtain on “Fiddler on the Roof.” Get your fill of goetta in Newport. The Sign Museum is lit up. Queen City Clay is fired up. The Mercantile hosts author Katie Yee and Patsy Cline is “Walkin’ After Midnight.” Have fun.

Culture FIX: July 9-15

“Summertime, and the livin’ is” … muggy. Do we let that stop us from a smorgasbord of arts and cultural entertainment? Of course not. Now that your ears have stopped ringing from the fireworks on the Fourth, don some light-weight clothes and head out to enjoy what summer in the city has to offer.

Culture FIX: July 2-8

If you thought there would be a lull in cultural enrichment during the holiday weekend, think again. Patriotic music. Some great jazz in our great parks. A reading of the Declaration of Independence. Cool indoor alternatives at the Woodward Theater and Mercantile Library. A walk-and-talk at spectacular Spring Grove Cemetery. May the Fourth be with you.

Culture FIX: June 25-July 1

With apologies to composer Béla Bartók, we’re calling this week’s Culture FIX our “Out of Doors” Suite. Every event listed here takes place outside – well, except for Cincinnati Opera, but remember, the company performed “out of doors” at the Cincinnati Zoo for over 50 years.

Culture FIX: June 18-24

Visual art takes the stage this week with openings at Eisele and Weston galleries, while Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park introduces us to soundscapes. Good film is abundant at Cincinnati World Cinema and Washington Park, which gets a little “Wicked.” Open your eyes and take it all in.

Culture FIX, May 21-27

This is the week many Cincinnatians have been waiting for – the unofficial start of summer, as the May Festival has its last spring fling in Music Hall, Taste of Cincinnati takes over downtown, and outdoor events bring people out to enjoy the warmer weather in public parks and civic spaces. So let’s get out there!

Culture FIX: Dec. 18-24

The holidays are here. If you need a break from shopping, singing, hosting and eating, wind down with some good jazz or theater or gut-busting comedy. Calm yourself with some candlelit choral music or a rousing “And he shall purify.” Whatever your holiday emotions demand, Queen City arts can supply.

Culture FIX, Oct. 23-29

Cincinnati’s fabulous biennial light and art festival is behind us – but that doesn’t mean a bleak, post-BLINK wasteland is ahead of us. Here are some highlights from the coming week’s busy cultural calendar.

Culture FIX, Oct. 16-22

BLINK, and you might miss it. For four days every two years, the cityscape of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky comes alive with the nation’s largest festival of light, art and projections. BLINK Cincinnati dominates this week’s cultural calendar, of course, but there’s more here to enjoy.
