Saturday, Oct. 15, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Duke Energy Convention Center
After 10 years of bringing the region’s biggest book festival to downtown Cincinnati, Books by the Banks is expanding its reach with a lineup of nine new events. They will culminate in the Books by the Banks Cincinnati Regional Book Festival this fall.
“Our mission is to enrich the lives of people in the area through reading and writing, and we’re taking that joy and excitement beyond our annual festival,” said Greg Edwards, Books by the Banks board president.
The festival itself is Saturday, Oct. 15, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at Duke Energy Convention Center. It is expected to draw more than 100 authors from across the country.
Among the lead-up events are a writing contest for adults and teenagers with cash prizes; special writing programs through partnerships with organizations such as Women Writing for (a) Change, University of Cincinnati and WordPlay; a panel discussion with local illustrators to celebrate the launch of the festival’s poster; a book giveaway for school kids featuring local author and illustrator Will Hillenbrand; and author talks at local libraries.
The 2016 Books by the Banks poster will be unveiled Thursday, Sept. 15, 6:30 p.m., at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Rookwood Pavilion.
The poster was designed by Hillenbrand, who also created the first poster back in 2006.
Posters will be on sale at a cost of $15 for the 2016 poster and $10 for posters from previous years.
