Region offers new drop-off sites for lithium-ion battery recycling

Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub has added new drop-off sites to its lithium-ion battery recycling program. Now, residents can dispose of those batteries at 10 fire stations across the region.

Participating locations:

  • Cincinnati Fire Department Hyde Park Station No. 46, 2731 Erie Ave.
  • Cincinnati Fire Department Lunken Station No. 18, 478 Wilmer Ave.
  • St. Bernard Fire Department Station No. 91, 4200 Vine St.
  • Colerain Township Fire Department Station No. 25, 3251 Springdale Road
  • Green Township Fire Department Station No. 53, 6303 Harrison Ave.
  • Central Campbell Co. Fire District, 4113 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring
  • Fort Wright Fire Department, 409 Kyles Lane, Fort Wright
  • Ludlow Fire Department, 234 Oak St., Ludlow
  • Madeira & Indian Hill Joint Fire District, 6475 Drake Road, Indian Hill
  • Madeira & Indian Hill Joint Fire District, 7205 Miami Ave., Madeira

Funded by Rumpke Waste & Recycling, the lithium-ion battery program helps residents dispose of these potentially hazardous items safely.

“When these batteries reach the end of their life, people don’t know what to do with them, so they toss them into their trash or recycling container, which leads to fires in our trucks and our facilities,” said Jeff Snyder, Rumpke senior vice president of recycling.

The extension of this program highlights a concerted effort by Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub to reduce the amount of hard-to-recycle and reusable items that end up in the landfills.

Since opening in April 2021, the nonprofit has diverted over 1 million pounds of materials from the landfill, including electronics, Styrofoam, pill bottles, plant pots, tile and more. Those interested can contact the
