SPCA Cincinnati will honor Carol Sanger, a business leader and animal champion, with this year’s P. B. Johnston Humane Care Award. It will be presented at the 2016 Fur Ball Gala.
Sanger is a longtime worker on behalf of animal welfare. As vice president of external affairs at Federated Department Stores (now Macy’s), she focused the company’s philanthropy on animal welfare for the first time.
Sanger serves as regional coordinator for Westie Rescue Indiana and helped raise nearly $100,000 and worked to find homes for more than 600 West Highland white terriers across three states.
She also works with WestieMed, which assists regional rescue groups with vet bills in catastrophic cases; serves as UCAN board chair and led a $400,000 fundraising campaign to build the region’s first low-cost spay/neuter clinic; helped establish the nonprofit Pets In Need of Greater Cincinnati, a wellness clinic; serves on the board of the League for Animal Welfare; and serves on the state’s Commercial Dog Breeding Advisory Board.
Over the years, Sanger has rescued and taken into her home many animals. The current census is 12 dogs, 9 cats, three goats and a miniature donkey.
Tickets to the Fur Ball are $150 and $200.
