Mayfield Foundation’s Art & Science of Healing

The return of Cincinnati native Jim Harris, the young adventure photographer who sustained a severe spinal cord injury while on assignment in Patagonia, was a highlight of the Mayfield Education & Research Foundation’s Art & Science of Healing II.

The event welcomed 220 guests and raised more than $90,000 for the foundation’s community education fund.

Patient honorees included survivors of brain aneurysms, brain tumors, back injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

The event included the regional premiere of “Places to Go: The Jim Harris Story,” a short film made about his injury, paralysis and his near-miraculous recovery.

A second documentary featured local neuroscience and researcher Jed Hartings, who recently was awarded a $4.2 million Department of Defense grant, based on preliminary research funded by Mayfield Foundation.

Presenting sponsors included The Christ Hospital, TriHealth, Mercy Health and Mayfield Clinic.
