CET has launched a new music and performance program, “River Valley Rhythms.”

The first episode, featuring the Blue Wisp Big Band, aired in mid-April. It will repeat on CET Arts at 8 p.m. Monday, May 2.

“River Valley Rhythms” is produced by Public Media Connect, the umbrella organization for CET and Dayton’s ThinkTv.

“Music is a universal language,” said Public Media Connect executive producer Mark Lammers.  “And here in southwest Ohio, we speak it as fluently as any area in the world. My hope in developing the ‘River Valley Rhythms’ line of programming is to spotlight what makes our area so special to me and to many in our community. And that starts with local musicians doing what they do best.”

The Blue Wisp Big Band is led by legendary jazz drummer John Von Ohlen, with trumpeter Terell Stafford as guest soloist in the first episode. Next up are the Brian Newman Quintet and the Nati’ 6.

“The hope is to slowly build momentum and really turn ‘River Valley Rhythms’ into a performance series that everyone in southwest Ohio can take pride in,” said Lammers.
