Urban league gala to feature R&B’s Freddie Jackson

Saturday, Sept. 17, gala 7 p.m., after-party 10 p.m., Duke Energy Center Grand Ballroom

The Urban League will welcome R&B legend Freddie Jackson to its annual black-tie gala and silent auction.

The evening will begin with silent auction, followed by dinner, a program and recognition of honorees. Then will come the performance by Jackson, whose first album in 1985 became a breakthrough hit when the title track of “Rock Me Tonight” spent six weeks at No. 1 on the R&B charts.

Emcees will be Marsha Bonhart and Kyla Woods of WLWT. Tickets to the gala are $150.

The Urban League Young Professionals will host the “Suits and Sips Soiree” after-party. It will feature a DJ, live band and food. Gala tickets include entry. For after-party only, reservations are $30 and $50 (VIP).
