Jersey Mike’s donates $491K to CancerFree KIDS

Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving raised a record $491,908 for CancerFree KIDS, marking another milestone in the decade-long partnership between the sandwich chain and the local nonprofit dedicated to funding pediatric cancer research.

Since 2015, Jersey Mike’s has raised nearly $2 million for CancerFree KIDS, which provides early-stage funding for innovative pediatric cancer research, aiming to develop more effective and less toxic treatments.

This year’s campaign kicked off with a surprise $100,000 personal donation from Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO Peter Cancro.

CancerFree KIDS celebrates Jersey Mike’s Day of Giving in Cincinnati.

“We thank all of our local Jersey Mike’s stores and staff for their tireless efforts in hosting the Month and Day of Giving for CancerFree KIDS, as well as the volunteers, Champion families who visited their local store and everyone who bought a sub to support us,” said Jill Brinck, executive director of CancerFree KIDS. “Combined with the personal donation from Peter to kick off the month, we are thrilled at this record-breaking amount, which will be transformational in funding pediatric cancer research right here at home.”

Throughout March, Jersey Mike’s customers could round up their purchases to support CancerFree KIDS. The fundraising effort culminated on March 26, when all 31 Jersey Mike’s locations in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky donated 100% of sales to the nonprofit.

As a result of the funds raised over the years, eight CancerFree KIDS research grants have been named in honor of Jersey Mike’s. These projects have led to $12.9 million in subsequent funding, five published studies, and crucial contributions to the development of a new FDA-approved drug for neurofibromatosis.

Overall, CancerFree KIDS has invested $10.85 million in research grants, which have secured more than $114 million in follow-on funding.
